Pursuant to Alabama Act No. 2001-956, Lawson State Community College seeks proposals from qualified professionals licensed in the State of Alabama to provide architectural and engineering services for the renovation of the A.G. Gaston Building – Birmingham Campus.

Qualification:  Applicants will be selected on the basis of professional qualifications and successful experience with similar full service engagements.  Applicant firms must clearly demonstrate a considerable body of successful experience with similar or closely-related facility types.  Skill and experience in analyzing requirements, related unique and special components and documenting facility requirements. Applicants must demonstrate successful experience in delivering fully integrated facilities in a functional, economical and effective manner. Applicants must provide documented success in construction cost management, thorough, accurate and timely services and document production. 

Applicant must provide documentation of experience in federally funded projects and the reporting thereof.

All applicable State of Alabama Building Commission procedures as well as any other applicable requirements from funding sources shall be utilized on this project.  Act 2001-955 requires a disclosure statement to be completed and filed with all proposals, bids, contracts, or grant proposals submitted to the State of Alabama in excess of $5,000. 

Alabama Immigration Law Compliance Contract:  Contractor agrees that it will fully comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, as amended by the Immigration Act of 1990, and the Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act.

Project General Description: Renovations to the Cosmetology, Barbering and Sewing classrooms and instructional labs in the A.G. Gaston Building – Birmingham Campus.

The Interior Renovations shall consist of replacing damaged acoustical ceiling tile, replacing existing light fixtures in various locations with new energy efficient fixtures, replace existing blackboards with new marker boards in various locations, replace existing sinks, upgrade existing electrical outlets in various locations, replace existing casework, interior and exterior doors and install new floor and wall finishes. The existing restrooms located in this building shall also be renovated to be ADA compliant. Replacement of windows and window casings and HVAC needs in addition to waterproofing and storm drain related areas in the A. G. Gaston Building.
